The Saga Continues...

We have a busy busy day ahead but I thought I would show you how my Mom's day started. Yep...another opossum! Brad is outraged at the amount of opossums taking over our side of town and declared that "we need to take a stand!"...against what I don't know. Anyhow, when the animal control worker came to collect the little darling, she found this.... A baby. Oh. My. Gag. And she said there should be 5 more. I can't even begin to describe to you the amount of chill bumps covering my entire body...so creeped out I am. Generally I love all things baby...I've found the exception. And how awesome is this woman? You go girl for being all brave and not scared of the gigantic rodent you are holding. Even if I were wearing a full suit of armor I would not hold that thing...much less with just a measly ol glove. She said that she was going to take it to the southeast side of town and set it free. Opossum Update

Yall, I'm not even kidding...Mom and Dad caught a second and much larger opossum last night. For reals. What is up with the opossum population boom? Mom said that this one was rocking back and forth. He said, "That's gross. Why did you have to tell me that while I'm eating my Wheaties?" You just never know what is going to be a turn-off to some people.

Playing Possum

A couple of summers ago, when I was pregnant with James, Brad and I had a pesky opossum that would visit our backyard every night. We hated it. We were scared it would eat our dog George. So we got a trap from the nice people down at the animal control and waited. We never caught it. So one night I saw the nasty animal up on the fence and Brad went out after it. At first he tried shooting it and missed. The gunshot was loud and I was worried the neighbors would complain so he resorted to more archaic methods. He got a flag pole and tried beating it to death. The crazy thing about opossums is that they really do "play possum". Brad beat the crap out of that thing and went out later to check on it. It wasn't dead! Five times he tried beating this thing with the flag pole and it would. not. die. So the sixth and final time he just bashed it in the head with a big rock. That did the trick. That's how we do things here in the south...just beat it to death. No...
